There’s been a serious lack of updating going on here, but with good reason. We’ve been busy producing a short film since February which we just wrapped up last week. The film called Contacting Kevin was a project we’d been thinking about for a long time and we’re super happy with how everything went.

The synopsis is simple enough: A girl (Stacey) becomes obsessed with her dead fiance (Kevin) and begins delving into occult practices in an attempt to be reunited with him.  We’ve got all of your favorite spirit communication methods repped here. EVPs, spells, a shrine, a seance some witchcraft and our own Beans and Bueller brand of Ouija board called the “Spectre Phone”.

We converted our loft into a film set for 3 months while we prepared all of the props and refined the final look of our spooky stage.  We bulit our shrine to Kevin (the dead fiance) using hundreds of candles worth of melted wax…it still smells like a birthday party.

We couldn’t resist adding a gnarly prosthetic as part of our story either…the finger of dead Kevin.

The shoot took 4 days of filming and now we have the wonderful task of editing. Our actress Alexis Somerset and actor Chauncey Johnson both did an amazing job, especially Alexis who had to sit in a chair for most of the shoot.

We finally got to use the Pepper’s Ghost technique which we’ve been dying to try since we saw it in action at Disney World’s Haunted Mansion ride last year. It’s a cool, old school in-camera effect for creating the look of a transparent ghost by filming the reflection of your actor through a sheet of glass. The effect is super… uhm, effective and looks just like a ghost!

Overall the shoot went well, no disasters no injuries or major fires caused by many burning candles…well one mini fire but it was manageable. We had a lot of great help and our amazing friends who came through, we couldn’t have done it without them! :) It’s incredible, the amount of work that goes into a few minutes of footage….it hurts my brain.
