Bull

I finished the bulldog. I really had to stop myself from going all out with the details. Sometimes we can get carried away, but this time we have ALOT of work on our plate, so it’s important to be realistic with our time lines. 2008 was a busy year, and this year we’re gearing up to be just as industrious. For 2009 we’ve already made 8 puppets/sculptures and it’s only January. My fingertips are officially bleeding.

I’m happy that I thought to take some before pics of this guy before finishing the deets. I always forget to do that.

Cut/Paste

Our neighbour and buddy Graham Landin designed some letters for our header.

Graham is a paper artists who creates exciting graphic imagery out of cut-out paper shapes…that’s really the best way I can think to describe it. Things like logos, crests, letters, and my favorite are these faces that pop up randomly about town.

I admit that the city can get shitty. Walking the same oily old streets can get so repetitive and boring ….depressing even. But then all of a sudden the broken telephone booth I walk by every time I leave my house is all happy and cute, or the greazy dumpster that reeks of death in the summer is laughing so hard that he’s crying. It breaks up the monotony of my routine and kind of forces me to smile. See for your self if you don’t.

Bully

A commissioned sculpture I’m working on for a friend. He loves bulldogs with “extreme underbites” so we decided to make this guy for him.

He’s not entirely done…i still need to add all of the details. A few more folds of skin and wrinkles here and there, along with some orange spots, whiskers and freckles maybe?

Anyway, it’s always interesting to see our sculptures as blank canvases before we really get in there and add all of the refinements. So here is a “before” shot of Bully….we’ll post the “after”, after.

I’m All out of Bubblegum

Dear John Carpenter,

Why? This sucks! Who can deliver better than Roddy? Nobody, that’s who. And tell me, will there still be a 5 1/2 minute fight scene? I hope so.

You’re still my favorite though…just don’t mess with “The Thing”.

“John Carpenter’s They Live in one of the finer B-movies of the 1980s. The story of a construction worker named Nada who finds a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see the alien creatures who plan to invade Earth, it features all the prerequisites necessary for a film to be considered a cult classic.

• It stars professional wrestler (and Canadian!) “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

• It has one of the coolest movie posters, ever.

• It’s directed by John Carpenter, the man behind Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, Halloween and The Thing.

• It features the eternal line: “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass…and I’m all out of bubblegum.”"
