Two armatures Ryan just knocked out. We’ve been commissioned to do someone’s two little dogs.  Maltee-poos!

Since these are static sculptures, they’re outfitted with very simple, non-jointed armatures. These guys will have posable mouths, tail, and ears though.

Hopefully we will have time to make a little animation with these guys before we send them off to Toronto. :)

Butters is the bigger boy…

Monkey is the little girl….

Butters in nearly done now, with one Monkey to go…We’ll post the finished guys later this week.

Welcome to the Family

Posted in Beans & Bueller, D.I.Y, WildLife on 08 7, 2008 by rabidweasels

I made this yesterday.

My cousins are all having babies lately, so I wanted to make them each something special.

This turtle is special because his “shell” is made out of my dead Grandmother’s old coat. For the baby born before I made a bunny out of my same Gram’s pyjamas. A lot of the sculptures and puppets we make are out of recycled used clothing, and i’m pretty sure a few items are someone’s dead relative’s.

In my family, my Gram was the matriarch. She took care of us kids and always engaged us in creative activities.  She was an amazing lady.  She passed away at 94 and missed out on all the recent baby action.  I decided to keep her memory alive by creating toys for our family from her old clothes.

My Granny made me a quilt when i was little, fabricated from my old baby clothing.

You can tell the year was ‘82 by all the corduroy! All the little characters were each embroidered by hand, and all of them were made out of things I used to wear.

This red bear was my old snowsuit!…I wasn’t into Barbie as a kid, but I just loved animals.

This was a good one too…fuzzy and soft.

I don’t know what this is.

That’s Bert!

And Grover, he was my favorite on Sesame Street.

This is the scary no face…never trusted him.

It’s Gruesome.

The new video for being here by The Stills is finally out!  We worked on this back in May and up until now had only seen the rough edit which excluded the FX.

The concept for this video is what really makes it so amazing.  Basically we are following the lead singer, Tim, as he walks through the city of Montreal with his band mates heads in a bag.  One by one he locates each headless musician, and plugs in their missing body part.

Sam and the Hand

Sam and the Hand

Sam Roberts plays a dark, mysterious character in the video and follows Tim throughout each scene, sometimes hidden in the background. The directors asked us to create a tiny gnarled hand for Sam, my guess was to bump up his level of creepiness and it was pretty funny to watch peoples reaction. Mostly everyone on set found it very “disturbing”, which to us means “good job”.

The hand itself was something we made using bits of what we had lying around the studio.  Ry and I are keen on re using and recycling things when we can. Ryan removed the arm of an older puppet, then added an additional joint to make the middle finger extra long and gnarly.

Then I added to the hand itself, details like fingernails and veins.  We left all of the imperfections there to make it gross.  The finishing touch though, would undoubtedly be the tiny little white sleeve.

The shoot went down without any major hitches apart from some crazy weather and a race against the sun.  Finally, I just have to say that Montreal is a rad city for letting everyone run around filming without a permit.
